General Consultation
Time with a doctor to work out what is actually going on, which tests are worth doing, and what the results mean.
Plenty of what people search for online is really a question for a doctor with your history in front of them. Which vaccines you still need, whether a test is worth doing, what a borderline result means, whether a symptom warrants investigation.
A general consultation is that conversation. It is also, frequently, the appointment that prevents unnecessary testing rather than generating it.
At a glance
Common reasons people book a consultation with us.
| Vaccine or test | Status | Schedule | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vaccination planning | Recommended | One appointment | Working out what you have had, what has lapsed and what you actually need. Particularly useful when childhood records are missing, which is most people. |
| Travel consultation | Recommended | 6 weeks before departure | Bring your itinerary including transit stops. Some destinations have legal vaccine requirements, and some vaccines need weeks to complete. |
| Interpreting test results | Recommended | Bring the reports | A report full of numbers with a few flagged values is not an answer. Whether a deviation matters depends on its size, the pattern, the trend and your symptoms. |
| Pre-conception review | Recommended | Before trying to conceive | Rubella and varicella immunity need checking before pregnancy, because both vaccines are live and cannot be given during it. |
| Student and visa requirements | Recommended | 2 to 3 months before the deadline | Bring the university or immigration requirement sheet. We work through it line by line so nothing is missed and nothing unnecessary is done. |
| Ongoing symptoms | Recommended | One appointment | Persistent tiredness, recurrent infections, unexplained weight change. The consultation decides what is worth investigating rather than testing everything. |
What to bring

The more you bring, the less has to be guessed or repeated.
- Any vaccination records you have, however old or incomplete.
- Previous test reports, particularly older ones, since the comparison often matters more than the latest value.
- A list of current medications and supplements, including doses.
- Any requirement sheet from a university, employer or immigration authority.
- Known allergies and previous reactions to vaccines or medicines.
- Your travel plans for the next few months, if any.
A consultation often means fewer tests, not more
It is a reasonable worry that seeing a doctor leads to a long list of investigations. In practice the opposite is common. A lot of testing people arrange for themselves is either unnecessary for their situation, or the wrong test for the question they are actually asking.
Someone convinced they need a full panel often needs two specific tests. Someone about to repeat a vaccine course frequently turns out to be immune already, which a single serology test settles. Deciding what to do before spending money on tests is usually the cheaper route.
What we do not do
We are a vaccination and preventive health clinic. That shapes what we are the right place for and what we are not.
For emergencies, go to a hospital rather than booking an appointment. For conditions needing ongoing specialist management, cardiology, oncology, complex endocrine care, we will point you to the right specialist rather than manage it here. Saying so plainly is more useful than taking the appointment.
Frequently asked questions
What can I see a doctor for at Dr. Vaccines?
Vaccination planning, travel consultations, interpreting test results, pre-conception reviews, student and visa requirements, and general preventive health questions. For emergencies use a hospital, and for conditions needing ongoing specialist management we will refer you appropriately.
What should I bring to the consultation?
Any vaccination records and previous test reports you have, a list of current medications, and any requirement sheet from a university, employer or immigration authority. Bring old reports as well as recent ones, since trends matter.
I have no records at all. Is a consultation still useful?
Yes, and it is very common. Serology can establish immunity directly for several vaccines, and where testing is not practical, such as tetanus, a booster is simply given because it is safe regardless.
Will I be sent for a lot of tests?
Usually fewer than people expect. A large part of what a consultation does is narrow things down, and it often replaces a broad panel with two specific tests, or shows that a vaccine course is not needed at all.
How far in advance should I book for travel or university deadlines?
Six weeks before travel, and two to three months before a university or visa deadline. Some vaccines need multiple doses over weeks, and a negative titre means vaccinating and sometimes retesting.

Before you rely on this page
This page is general health information, not personal medical advice. Vaccine schedules depend on your age, medical history, pregnancy status, medications and previous immunisations. Our doctors will confirm what is right for you at your appointment. National recommendations are also revised periodically. We review these pages against current Indian and WHO guidance.
