Hajj vaccination requirements
Hajj brings more than two million pilgrims into the same few square kilometres within a fixed window in Dhul Hijjah. That density, combined with shared tents at Mina and long hours outdoors in extreme heat, is why Saudi Arabia enforces vaccination requirements at the visa stage rather than leaving them to the traveller.

Because the certificate only becomes valid 10 days after vaccination, and Hajj travel dates are fixed years in advance, book your vaccination at least 3-4 weeks before departure. Most Hajj groups collect documents well before the flight.

Preparing for Hajj
Start early, not the week before
The 10-day validity rule catches people out every season. Vaccinating 3-4 weeks ahead leaves room for a second dose if one is needed and for your operator to collect paperwork on time.
Bring your existing records
If you have had Meningococcal ACWY in the last 3-5 years, bring the certificate. You may already be covered and may not need another dose.
Tell us about chronic conditions
Diabetes, heart disease, respiratory conditions and pregnancy all change what we recommend. Hajj involves sustained exertion in heat, so this conversation matters more than for ordinary travel.

Which vaccine is compulsory for Hajj?+
The quadrivalent Meningococcal ACWY vaccine is mandatory for all pilgrims aged 1 year and above. Saudi Arabia will not issue a Hajj visa without a valid certificate, and the certificate is only valid from 10 days after the dose is given.
How long before Hajj should I get vaccinated?+
At least 10 days before arrival in Saudi Arabia for the certificate to be valid, but we recommend 3-4 weeks. Hajj operators usually collect documentation well ahead of departure, and the extra margin covers any additional doses.
How long does the Hajj meningococcal certificate stay valid?+
A conjugate Meningococcal ACWY certificate is generally accepted for 5 years and a polysaccharide one for 3 years. If you performed Hajj or Umrah within that window you may still be covered, bring your old certificate and we will check.
Do children need the Hajj vaccination?+
Yes. The meningococcal requirement applies from 1 year of age. We will advise on the correct schedule for younger children at your appointment.
Do I need the polio vaccine for Hajj?+
Only if you are travelling from a country Saudi Arabia currently lists as polio-affected or at-risk. The list changes annually, so we check it against your country of origin during your consultation.
Can I get the vaccine and certificate on the same day?+
Yes. We vaccinate and issue your certificate in the same visit at our clinic. Remember that Saudi Arabia counts validity from 10 days after the dose, not from the date of issue.
